I worked my ass off on this picture, so I hope you like it. (Even though I don't! ) There are so many things wrong with the background - I don't like the ground at all. I searched high and low for dirt tutorials and I used references but it still ended up looking like poo. Stupid dirt. Anyway, it's been charred and burned, so that's why it looks like that. The foreground forest - it isn't too bad, but I would of far rather had it look more realistic and less like a freaking medieval tapestry like it does. The far mountains aren't TOO crappy, but I still hate them.
The sky? I used no tutorials on it, just a ref and it turned out freaking awesome and looks a lot like the reference picture! Huzzah! (Unfortunately I don't know who took the pic, I found it on google so whoever you are - THANKS!!!! )
Eqaetz's fur caused me a fair bit of annoyance, trying to figure out how to do dapples. It took me a DAY to dapple him. A DAY! In the end my realistic look didn't look good enough so I went for a more cartoonish look. I used two different types of shading and highlighting on this entire piece. If you noticed with Eqaetz I had a bit of fun with perspective when I was drawing him. I did his entire body without a tutorial, though huge, absolutely massive amounts of credit are due to for inspiring me to do the bg digital in the first place and for doing her brilliant eye tutorial which taught me the technique for this.
For Eqaetz's hair and hooves I made up my own technique, which worked fine so I was happy. I love him! I also used that technique on Ki's hair, which for the very first time in the history of me drawing drakoon - looks almost right. Almost! But I'm proud of it. I'm really happy with Ki in general, though I think his sword arm is a tad funky.
The sword was freaking annoying. Have you ever tried to draw a straight line on photoshop? Nigh impossible. Dumb program. For the metal I kind of glanced at a metal tutorial and then, since I already knew before basically what to do, I went at it.
Thanks to all you guys who provided support and for especially for providing critique whenever she was on. Thank you!
This took me two weeks. I'm gonna avoid PS for a few days.

Digital is crisper and prettier! I want to get a tablet so that it won't take as long and then I'll be able to have even more detail! The sky was my first ever accurate painting from a reference in my entire life! (I've tried sooo many times to do it traditionally and it always just failed miserably. My old teacher was always trying to force me to do stuff from other people's art. I hated it.) Touch pad laptop sounds better than a mouse! I want to get one of those soon too.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
