His Favourite Things by Falcolf His Favourite Things by Falcolf
Comments Appreciated!

Finally this is done! :D I followed my instincts and went with dramatic shading and a stone background, 'cus that's where all of these guys live - in a dark, brooding, freaky castle thing. Yep.

Sukra is a creeper.

I want this art to speak for itself for the most part, but I can't resist writing a little bit about Sukra, the guy with the freaky smile.

Naik Sketzine Aris Sukra ai Sloveniska
At the age of 41, Sukra, along with his partner and charge, have already far surpassed their life expectancies of thirty or so years. An incredible survivor, Sukra has survived and thwarted over twenty-five assassination attempts upon his emperor and also escaped untold attempts upon his own life, not to mention the assassination of his own father Kihane along with his father's emperor Valiska when he was young. Vicious, swarthy, merciless, possessive, enterprising and disturbingly intelligent, Sukra, in keeping with his dangerous Sketzine doctrine, is a full blooded nationalist who would do absolutely anything for his country - including murder innocents. It has been said that drakoon have experienced heart attacks just by smelling him and he, along with his subordinate partner Alkane, in response to their master's rage were responsible for the massacre of Sloveniska's entire special operations strike force (including all of its young and animals), an incident which temporarily hamstringed the nation because it took years to rebuild the force that Sukra had inherited from his assassinated older brother Vainrai. Luckily, Sloveniska survived but Emperor Kelveniska was forced to put a tighter leash on his two killer guardians.

Because Sketzine believe that every drakoon excepting those of the Imperial Bloodline is a potential threat, the slightest wrong motion is enough to provoke them unless their master keeps them strictly controlled. Drakoon who live and work near them dance with death though Sukra has killed less of his ordinary subordinates than his partner Alkane has. Despite having had every single member of his family either assassinated or killed by suicide (Sukra was even present when his brother Brinti killed himself) Sukra remains frighteningly calm and collected, never losing complete control over himself.

Though it would seem that Sukra is remarkable in his horrible temperament and his rule of terror over Sloveniska to some, Sukra is not unique if he is compared to other drakoon in his bloodline, that which is known as the 'Pureline.' He comes from a long line of brutally clever yet calm sketzine, drakoon who were bred to have the highest concentration of the murderous instinct Kill Copper yet to also have the greatest level of control as well as intelligence in executing their goals. The instinct to protect is deeply ingrained in sketzine of Sukra's line, something which has passed, along with the rest of Sukra's unsavoury traits into his as yet immature son Keeliska, who without Kill Copper (which awakens in drakoon during the onset of sexual maturity), has already proved himself to be just as lethal to Sloveniska's many enemies as his proud but brutal father.

Sukra's favourite things; his heir and the heir! :)

Personally, I wouldn't want this guy as my father which makes it kind of a good thing that drakoon don't have an informal word for 'father.' Sukra seriously doesn't deserve to be called a dad. Ignoring the fact that he's a psychopath who sometimes does kill for fun (ew), he's also a jerk and kind of an ass to his son - of course, he calls his messed up treatment of Keel 'training.' Poor Keel. Luckily(?) Keel will actually end up keeping at least some of his sweetness because he does not quite possess the same level of lethal calibre as his father. (He's still very close though. He's just friendlier with his charge than his dad is.)

The scary thing? There are drakoon who are far worse than Sukra, who's actually a 'good guy' in my story. (This term used kind of loosely. He's a tertiary protagonist.)

The most messed up part about this piece is that I inked it the day that my grandfather died, June 19th 2012. I needed something to do and all I really had was my sketchbook, so while remembering an incredibly brave, wonderful, courageous man, I drew a guy who is pretty much literally the scum of the earth, the stellar opposite of my grandpa. I feel kind of sorry for that because it feels wrong, but I can still dedicate the effort that went into this piece to my grandpa. I have no idea if he would have been impressed by this at all,* because I'm not sure if he ever actually liked ANY of my art, but I also don't know if he hated my art either. Anyway, I loved/love him and hopefully, wherever he is, he can appreciate how long it took for me to do this. :)

*Also, my grandpa lived through WWII so I doubt he would have been pleased by the subject matter in this piece. He was never a soldier because the Canadian government refused to accept him so he never saw any of the action but he still lived there in that time. I have no doubt that had he not been kept out of the Royal Canadian Air Force because of his German heritage he would have been a fighter pilot, gunner or bomber. I'm proud of him anyway.
