My first try at a realistic digital painting! I'm really proud of this, there are five layers of different coloured fur on this guy over the base coat. He doesn't look quite as photo real as I was hoping, but whatever. He's got fur, which is more than can be said for some of my paintings of wolves in the past. If you know who Wolf is, kudos to you. If you don't well, you get to stare at a pretty wolfy. I tried a new canvass size for this one (I was working on 8x11 before and this is 20x something.) This is a very personal picture, but I plan on making a few prints of it in the future. (Mainly because my weirdo art teacher who is nice wants to do an art auction or something like that and you know I could never part with one of my traditional pieces. This way I get a high quality print done of this and watch the bids come in... or not.)
I created this picture because wolves mean a lot to me, especially this wolf. He's been with me forever, since before I can remember, giving advice at annoying instances and being my friend. Wolves are the embodiment of loyalty and courage, and to me they remind me of the north. (Hence the bg.) I highly respect wolves, how they avoid confrontation and how big family is to them and I share these values. Of all the apex predators, the wolf is the greatest and most like humans in society, which is probably why so many of our species loathe them irrationally. I am entering this in the contest at because what better to show them than a protrait of my own wolf within. Loyalty, love, courage and endurance. Wolves are persistant - given a chance they are the greatest of all creatures in my opinion, including us.
Please... when the comment box says 'No Critque Desired' do not critique! Thanks.
Well, there's no depth to it. The current shading mostly looks like colour variation on the fur. What's lacking is shading that shows the three dimensional form of the wolf.
I didn't shade the fur obviously and I know what shading is. I shaded the body on the layer beneath the fur layers. This is my first time working with fur, nobody can expect me to have it perfect right off.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
